Wall tapestry
Tapta (1926-1997)
Born in Brussels in 1926, Maria Wierusz Kowalski, known as Tapta, is a Belgian sculptor of Polish origin. She studied at the National School of Visual Arts in La Cambre in Brussels before leaving for the Belgian Congo where she lived for ten years. As early as the 1980s, Tapta questions the flexibility of materials, the rigor and the radicality of lines and shapes. Her minimalist approach is critical of the contemporary world and the post-industrial world. Tapta then confronts his works with the liquid element. After floating sculptures designed for Lake Monate and the lagoon of Venice, she favors the split spaces, the structure and its reflection in the water.
