Who is

Description - Spoon of Gouro

The Gouros are the neighbors of the Baoule tribe. Their productions are close because the Gouro influenced the Baoule trive. They live in an eroded area at the border between the dense tropical forest and the savannah. Ancestral worship is very important in the Gouro society, just as the entities of nature who are venerated in secret societies for which masks play an important role, just like other objects like this ritual spoon. This beautiful spoon is delicately carved. The end of the handle is shaped as an anthropomorphic face, close to the appearance of Gouro masks. Ritual scarifications are represented on the top of the front, below a hairstyle worked in more cones. The long neck is twisted, reminding the horns of the animals of the savannah. The beautiful patina shows the age of this spoon.
