Tapio Wirkkala (1915-1985)

Tapio Wirkkala, born in 1915, is a Finnish sculptor and designer. He joined Aideteollinen Korkeakoulu where he studied industrial design from 1933 to 1936. In 1955, he designed and drew Finnish notes and in 1970, the bottle of Vodka Finlandia. His abundant production is characterized by glassware, furniture, sculpture or graphic arts. Tapio Wirkkala has participated in numerous exhibitions and has won several awards including three gold medals at the Milan Triennale. It's in nature that he finds the inspiration for industrial and artistic forms.
